Skiing

They say good things come in small packages – and that’s certainly true in the case of the ski options in and around Sterzing, where there’s something for winter lovers of all ages and abilities. No fewer than three ski areas await you: Mt Cavallo/Rosskopf, ideal if you love relaxed skiing in the sunshine, Ladurns ski area, which is family-friendly and enjoys guaranteed snow, and Racines/Ratschings ski area, where ski whizzes find everything their hearts desire. And the icing on the cake? Seven more ski areas are no more than an hour’s drive away.

Tobogganing

If you’ve ever whizzed down into the valley on a toboggan, you’ll know: It’s always over too soon! Luckily for you, Europe’s longest toboggan run awaits you in Sterzing! You’ll cover 900 metres of elevation during the 10km-long, speedy descent with challenging corners. You can rent toboggans at the valley station of the Mt Cavallo/Rosskopf lift and then take the lift up to the start of the toboggan run.

Hiking

Located at the meeting point of four Alpine valleys, Sterzing is the ideal base for mountain lovers. The multitude of hiking paths extends from leisurely walks on the local mountain, Mt Cavallo/Rosskopf, to challenging summit tours up 3,000m peaks, and leads past lakes, through Alpine meadows, and over rocky slopes – whatever takes your fancy! Something to bear in mind for all hiking tours: Please make sure you head out to explore the mountains well informed and well equipped.

Cycling

The best thing about cycling is that you experience the surroundings and their treasures in a completely different way than from the car or train. Riding a bike lets you enjoy moving and appreciate nature all at the same time. As well as giving you the freedom to explore the roads or trails to your heart’s content, cycling is a great way to leave everyday life behind. In Sterzing and environs, you have so many options open to you. Whether you head up the mountain or onto the cycle path, on an e-bike or road bike, all you have to do is hop onto your saddle and pedal away!

Golf

The 7-hole course at Sterzing golf club lies right beneath Tasso/Reifenstein castle. The laid-back atmosphere and fascinatingly designed fairways are perfect for a quick round or two. You can work on your swing in peace on the driving range and enjoy the course’s unique setting. If you’re looking for an 18-hole round, the golf clubs in Val Passiria/Passeiertal and Völs are an hour’s drive away.

Tennis

Game, set, match – do these three words make your heart jump for joy? In Sterzing, just a 10-minute walk away from the Schwarzer Adler, you’ll find four top-class clay tennis courts. So, grab your racket, warm up your fore- and backhand, and make your serve.

High ropes course

In recent years, a spectacular high ropes course has been created at the entrance to the old town. If you have a head for heights and want to look at things from a different angle, the high ropes course in Sterzing is a thrilling challenge. Soak up the unique feeling of freedom amongst the treetops.

Rafting

You’re sure to encounter the Isarco/Eisack river on your visit to Sterzing, as it runs through the whole length of the town. So, it’s no surprise that avid rafting pros have created the opportunity for everyone to experience the river up close. In the summer months, you can plunge boldly into the water with an expert guide and rush southwards with the river. Fun, adrenaline, and unique views are guaranteed!
